The Start in a new World
Hello there!!!
Before I am starting to write I will discribe you why I am writing in english right now. I have a lot of friend who wonna know how my internship in India is going on. It is very hard to get internet, but I`ll try to write every week one text. But that everyone can read how my live is going on here I`ll write every two weeks in German. The other week I`ll write in English.
At sunday I was arriving very early in Mumbai- at 4.30am. Everythink went perfect at the flight. After I got my bagpack I tryed to get out of the airport. That is not that easy, because they are very afrait of terrorism so I had to go through three controlls. But everything went well and I got out of the airport 1 1/2 hours after my arrival. I was really afrait that maybe the driver will not be there, because I took so long in the airport but there where 4 man standing and waiting for me. I was very happy about it. So we went to the road and on the way out of Mumbai we left 2 of that 4 man out of the car and went . It tooked us 3 hours for normaly but we had a caraccidant. Nothing happend but in India the traffic is very crazy. Everybody is taking his place to drive. I don`t know how they are doing that but it is working. But just not that time. We had to stop because of one car in front of us and the car behind us was not fast enough to stop. Nothing happend to us but we couldn`t go anymore. But an other car from Maher came and was picking me up.
When we arrived at 10.30am in Maher i was just very tired. But I couldn`t go because one woman was bringing me in the mainhouse. There were a lot of children standing and waiting. Here they have a wellcome ritual. So they were waiting for me to sing. In between I got an flourgirland around my neck and got the red point on my forhead. It is a symbol of respekct. Because in India there are three types of person holy. 1. the parents, 2. the teacher, 3. the guests...
After that I got my breakfast - chapatti, cheese, guavenjam and egg. But I was so tyred i even couldn`t eat anythink. So they went to show me my room. I am kind of sharing my room with Amy- an american volunteer. She is here for two month. That was very good for the beginning, because it was kind of hard for me to get into this place, what is so different from our europe livestyle. The people are looking at me like I am a coloured dog and so I can not go anywhere by my own. It is very hard for me... But everybody is nice to me!!!
I would love to write you everything about that live here and i try to do it in the next weeks, because it is so much to write everything now.... I feel, like I am living here since three weeks because I have seen o much...
Maher is a big project foundetby Sr. Lucy in the early 90`s. There are many houses and projects to give woman and children a home and a future who had a lot of trubble in there live...
Hira, a director form Maher, was showing us all of these houses. It is good to know about it. In the next weeks i will tell you a lot more about this project. I just can say jet, with all of my knowledge about the project so far, it is a very good and needed one.
At Maher- it meens Mothers House- there are ca. 600 Children and 200 wimen living. The most of the stuff have the same story like all of the other residents. Maher is a place where people from every religion, cast and ancestry are living in peace together under one roof. That is a very interesting idea and should be there more often.
With me there are three more volunteers at vadhu-Budruk. The american girl Amy and two austrian Johanna and Dijo. Dijo`s parents are actually coming from India.
In the next days I am going to try to get a simcard. The india people are crazy with there mobilephones. Everywhere you can hear it ringing. But it is not that simple to get a simcard. Because of the terrorism they are afraid of the phones. So I need to get a letter from Maher that I am not a dangerous person... =D
I will write you later more. Till than good bye!!!!
